Lance Marwood

Writer by trade.

Lance Marwood is a writer, publisher, and artist-development operator based in Hamilton, Ontario. He is President and Co-Founder of V13 Press and V13 Promo, and Director of Communications at V13 Media. He has written for V13.net since 2015, with more than 300 published articles.

He came up in Toronto’s hardcore punk scene, playing shows out of Soybomb, Siesta Nouveau and the Brohaus between roughly 2007 and 2013, and hosting The Hard Stuff, first on Spirit Live internet radio in 2010 and later as a YouTube series. He has been interviewing musicians for more than fifteen years. He does it now as host of MAKE // BREAK, a creative industry podcast for artists who want the truth, not the pitch.

Between the two, there was a corporate detour. A move to the UK to support his wife through medical school took him into Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, where he went from temp administrative assistant to Compliance Manager. He describes the shift plainly: “I became the precise type of pencil pusher for a luxury car brand.” It changed how he understood the work. “Whereas that proximity, for me, before meant being complicit, now I was more aware that that was actually not the case.”

That is the thinking underneath everything he now builds for artists. He runs the Green Room, a community for independent musicians, and is building its Foundations course, “designed to ensure that every musician working today has at least the basics required for a future in music. You can start with literally nothing and end with at least the very bare minimum required.”

He is blunt about why. “As somebody that has gone viral before, I didn’t have any of my foundations in place. I watched everything sail right by me, even as upwards of 20 million views passed me by. None of it really stuck.”

His debut novella, The Cherale, was published by V13 Press in 2025. His second book, Torturer, is serialized in Verse & Vision. He publishes his fiction and essays through Lowkey Hellish, his imprint at V13 Press.
